Commanding Your Morning
February 2014
In the morning, O LORD, you hear my voice; in the morning I lay my requests before you and wait in expectation. Psalm 5:3
Satisfy us in the morning with your unfailing love, that we may sing for joy and be glad all our days. Psalm 90:14
To appoint unto them that mourn in Zion, to give unto them beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; that they might be called trees of righteousness, the planting of the Lord, that he might be glorified. Isaiah 61:3
The other day, my plan was to get up, spend some time in the Word, get ready, get some coffee, and then hit the road. Instead, I woke up later than planned and the spirit of heaviness was on me. On top of all that, my dog Mallory had an accident. By the time I got finished cleaning him (yes, he's a he and no, I did not name him. My mama did that....lol) and the accident up, all I had time to do was to get ready and hit the road. Friend, I recognized very quickly what type of day it was. It was one of those days, you know, when someone sneezes one too many times and you're like, "No more blessing for you!" lol! I had an hour and a half drive ahead of me and was just not feeling it. Just to show you the importance of commanding your morning no matter what day it is.........I was actually on my way to church! Well, about 30 minutes into the drive "I Command My Soul" by Bishop Neil C. Ellis and the Mt. Tabor Praise Team came on. This song is not new to me. Every youth Sunday, the youth choir at my home church back in Augusta, Georgia sings this, and usually because I hear it so often I just skip to the next song, but this particular morning I let it play. The lyrics are:

"I command my soul to bless the Lord. I command my soul to bless the Lord. Soul. Soul. Bless the Lord! I command my voice to sing His praise. I command my voice to sing His praise. Voice. Voice. Sing His praise! I command my hands to give Him praise. I command my hands to give Him praise. Hands. Hands. Give Him praise! I command my feet to leap for joy. I command my feet to leap for joy. Feet. Feet. Leap for joy!" |
Once Ms. Nadene Moss and the praise team got finished singing I found that I had the garment of praise and that the spirit of heaviness had lifted. I was full of so much joy and peace. It was at that time that the Lord said to me, "It's time that YOU start commanding YOUR morning!" Friend, putting on the garment of praise is what lifts our spirits and keeps us shining and filled with the joy of the Lord. The decision to praise God in good times and bad can cause us to deal with the pressures, stresses, failures, and successes of everyday life with ease. Psalm 100:4 says, "Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, and into his courts with praise: be thankful unto him, and bless his name." Even on Sundays, we have to command our mornings and put on the garment of praise! Friend, having a good day doesn't just happen. I believe it begins with the words we speak. Words can devastate or edify; they can build up or tear down. Words can motivate us to accomplish an impossible task or cause us to give up in despair. This is why once that alarm clock goes off, we need to open up our mouths and speak life over ourselves and our day!
For example, your soul is your mind, will, and emotions. By commanding your soul to bless the Lord you are saying:
Also, as we've discussed countless times on NYCU, WORDS HAVE POWER! Death and life are in the power of the tongue! By commanding your voice to sing His praise you are saying:
By commanding your hands to give Him praise you are saying:
This one is my favorite because for those of us who are not morning people, we need some JOY! By commanding your feet to leap for joy you are saying:
Friend, you have on the inside of you POWER! After all, the same power that raised Jesus from the dead lives on the inside of YOU! It's time that you build yourself up on the Word of God and command your morning. It doesn't matter what may come your way or what obstacle may seem to be blocking your path----choose to command your morning by speaking faith-filled words! When you get up in the morning, your body may be a little tired because you may not have had as much sleep as you really needed, but instead of saying, "I'm tired," say, "This is the day that the Lord has made. I choose to rejoice and be glad in it! Self, I command you to obey the Word of God, to yield to and receive what He says about you, to do what He has given you supernatural ability to do, and to embrace His will for YOU!" Then say, "Worry sit down. Anxiety flee. Rejection we're done. Mind and mouth line up with the Word of God." Then command your soul to bless the Lord, command you voice to sing His praise, command your hands to give Him praise, and command your feet to leap for joy! Speak to your body and say, "You will rejoice! You will have energy! You will do what's necessary today! Today will not only be a good day, but a total God day! I will walk in total freedom and VICTORY in Jesus' name, Amen!"
Be encouraged and start commanding your mornings!
For example, your soul is your mind, will, and emotions. By commanding your soul to bless the Lord you are saying:
- "Today, emotions, you're going to bless the Lord. I will not be led or bound by you! I will instead, be led by my spirit. I will bless the Lord!"
- "Mind, you're going to bless the Lord today. I will not allow thoughts that are not of God to control, bombard, paralyze, and devastate me! Instead, I will renew my mind with the Word! I will bless the Lord!"
- "Will, you too, will bless the Lord! It's not about my plans and agenda, it's about God and His purpose for my life! Lord, have your way today!"
Also, as we've discussed countless times on NYCU, WORDS HAVE POWER! Death and life are in the power of the tongue! By commanding your voice to sing His praise you are saying:
- "Voice, you will not speak doubt, fear, worry, unbelief or anything that goes against the Word today! You will speak life! You will sing His praise!"
By commanding your hands to give Him praise you are saying:
- "Hands, you will do what God says to do in-spite of what you feel or what it looks like! You will work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men! You will not be slothful and lazy. YOU will be diligent and tenacious. You will not give up! You will give God praise!
This one is my favorite because for those of us who are not morning people, we need some JOY! By commanding your feet to leap for joy you are saying:
- Feet, not only are you going to get up, but you are going to MOVE FORWARD! Sadness and heaviness, you have no authority! I will not dwell on what did or didn't happen yesterday! Just as I opened my eyes this morning, I believe that God is opening doors for me that no man can slam shut! I'm expecting amazing miracles today! I will be full of joy!
