Faith That Expects
"Faith is the confidence that what we hope for will actually happen; it gives us assurance about things we cannot see." Hebrews 11:1 NLT
"Fear is expectation going in the wrong direction." Pastor George Pearsons
In the post "By Faith" we realized that the call of God on our lives is going to require a "by faith" life!" We have all heard 2 Corinthians 5:7 AMP which says, "For we walk by faith, not by sight or appearance." We all know that as believers we should live by faith.....believing that God is faithful and will surly do it (Thessalonians 5:24 ESV) and that all things will work together for our good (Romans 8:28). But let's be real, sometimes.....it's really hard to believe in spite of what you see or how you feel. But.....friend, if you are going to see the manifestation of God's glory.....believing and having faith in spite of.....although difficult at times......is vital and will get you to your expected end (Jeremiah 29:11). Friend, not only must we live by faith and not by sight, but we must also have faith that expects. We have an enemy out there that desires to see us defeated and all he can use is a big box of suggestions. "What if this doesn't happen," "What if God doesn't come through," "What if this; what if that......" I am reminded of a story that was told to me:
"When Gladys Aylward was on her way to China to fulfill the call of God on her life, the enemy must have known how powerful her ministry would be, because he tried to thwart her before she even arrived. In Russia, corrupt government officials detained her. As she sat in a hotel room, thinking about a way to escape, an officer tried to force his way in.
Boldly, she told him, “You are not coming in here.”
“Why not?” he smirked.
“Because this is my bedroom.”
“I am the master, I can do with you what I wish!”
“Oh no, you cannot. You may not believe in God, but He is here. Touch me and see. Between you and me God has put a barrier. Go!”
The man stared at Gladys, shivered, and without another word, turned and left"
Imagine having that much confidence in the protection that God promises His children! Not just hoping God will come through for you, but knowing He will. Not cowering in fear when the enemy tries to attack, but rising up in the strength of God and trampling him under our feet. Friend, fear is expectation going in the wrong direction. When you are in fear you are still expecting something, but your expectation is coming out of fear instead of faith. Fear is the reciprocal of faith. They work the same way, but they are opposites. Both are forces. One is positive; the other is negative. Fear is your expectation gone south. Fear brings the devil on the scene, faith......faith that expects what it is believing for brings God on the scene. Christ has already defeated the devil! The only thing that the devil can do is put on a magic show; using smoke and mirrors to trick us into taking him seriously and letting him have his way in our lives. But if we stand firmly in the power that Christ has given us and expect God to do what He said He would do, NO WEAPON FORMED AGAINST US CAN PROSPER (Is. 54:17)!
Friend, today don't just live by faith, but have faith that expects what it is believing God for to happen. Have faith that expects success, instead of fear that expects failure. Have faith that expects the best, instead of fear that expects the worst. Have faith that expects the desired result, instead of fear that expects the dreaded outcome. Remember that faith is having the right expectations. Fear is having the wrong expectations. Faith fearlessly believes that everything is going to work out perfectly, right in line with God's Word, will, and purpose. Hebrews 11:1 tells us that, "faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen." True Bible hope is defined as "a red hot, burning, earnest expectation; with an outstretched neck." Faith fearlessly expects the best! Friend, are you expecting the best? Sure. It may not "look" too good. Sure. It may not "feel" too good. But guess what? YOU SERVE A GOOD GOD WHO CANNOT AND WILL NOT FAIL YOU! Release your faith right now and declare this out loud: "I walk by faith and not by fear. I believe God's Word. I expect the very best. I expect to succeed and not fail. I expect to win and not lose. I expect to reach my expected end. I am headed up and not down. I am going over and not under. According to my earnest expectation and hope, the situation I am in right now has turned in my favor in Jesus mighty Name!"
Continue walking, living, and expecting by faith!
